The Scotsman Hotel is set in the Victorian building which housed the offices of The Scotsman newspaper for more than 100 years. Located on North Bridge Bridge between the Princes Street shopping area and the Royal Mile, the hotel is within sight of Waverley Railway station. Each room is different, but all are decorated in modern neutral colors with traditional Scottish tweeds as the unifying theme. Rooms have privacy hatches, so room service can be delivered without disturbing guests, as well as computers with Internet access and an Edinburgh monopoly board table.
In the North Bridge Brasserie guests and non-residents can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner from a varied menu, in a striking setting that contrasts original marble pillars and wood paneling with new steel flooring and a striking metal staircase. The Vermilion restaurant and its adjacent bar offer a more relaxed setting to focus on the the modern European menu and wine list. The bar houses some 399 malt whiskies. The hotel's health club and swimming pool offer a chance to burn off some of those calories. The concierge desk can help visitors to enjoy Edinburgh's many attractions; Edinburgh Castle, Arthur's Seat and Holyrood Palace are all less than a mile away. From Glasgow by car:
Take the A8 to the junction with the A803/M8. Drive on the M8 for 5.7 miles to junction 8. Drive a further 6.9 miles on the A8 followed by 26.5 miles on the M8, until the end of the motorway.
At Calder junction take the A720 for 1 mile to the A71 at Dalry. Drive on the A71 for 3.5 miles to the A70 (Haymarket). Continue through Shandwick Place and onto Princes Street until you reach the one-way system. The road will lead you to turn left into South Charlotte Street and then right onto Queen Street.
At the second set of traffic lights turn right onto Hanover Street. Cross over the roundabout and at the next set of traffic lights the road will lead you across Princes Street and up the hill onto The Mound.
Take a left onto the High Street (Royal Mile) and drive for ¼ mile until you reach the first crossroads. Take a left onto North Bridge Street and the hotel is situated approximately 200 yards on your left. From Edinburgh International Airport:
There are airport shuttle bus 3 minutes from the hotel, private transfers can also be arranged.
