The Creek South Beach is a bright spot on the South Beach budget scene. Previously known as Banana Bungalow (the former hostel changed hands in 2002), this two- story hotel built in the 1950s has been transformed into a 21st-century budget hotel but still retains some of its low-key hostel feel. When the owners revamped, they added lots of original artwork and cleaned up the large outdoor pool and sundeck. There's a DJ booth on site (the sound system is industrial strength), a small movie theater, a pool table, and a video arcade.
Standard rooms are simple no-frills affairs while Signature rooms have been individually-and colorfully-decorated by artists. A daily Continental breakfast is complimentary and there is a communal kitchen available for use. The open-air café hosts weekend barbecues and looks out over the pool deck. There is also a popular 40-foot-long bar inside. Additional amenities include a lobby Internet kiosk and laundry facilities. Parking is free, unlike many Miami hotels.
