The Hotel Alex Johnson is located in the heart of downtown Rapid City. This unique hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1927, the Hotel Alex Johnson was uniquely designed to reflect South Dakota's heritage by incorporating Native American art and symbols into a Germanic Tudor architecture, which reflected German immigration into the Dakotas. The hotel is situated within easy walking distance from many unique specialty shops, museum, restaurants and galleries, with something for everyone. The guest rooms have been authentically renovated, and equipped with hand-crafted replicas of the original furnishings, which reflect Lakota Sioux themes.
